After enduring emergency surgery to address a ruptured appendix in the wee hours of the morning on April 24th at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, I have a newly found understanding of what it is like to be a patient and a newly found appreciation for caregivers. My husband, Col. W. James Payne (USMC, Ret.), stayed with me day and night in the tiniest hospital quarters for the 10 days I was hospitalized. While not the strict definition of “caregiver,” my incredible team at the Elder Law & Life Care Planning Center kept the practice running efficiently and productively, serving clients and their families all the while, which alleviated so much of my anxiety and stress while I recuperated. My parents and children helped James and I so much once we returned home. After not eating solid food for 8 days, I had immense gratitude for the ability to taste, chew and digest really good food! So when you read this post, know that following the healing steps helped me in my recovery. I hope it helps you in your time of need!
Here’s to your health and happiness,
