Growing up in McLean, Virginia with many siblings I was raised by an Italian father and his mother - as most Italians will tell you, they come as a package - and a French mother. I learned early on to be a fighter and to stand up for what I believed in, by necessity. My multi-cultural background was never dull, to say the least, I was afforded the wonderful opportunity to travel and live in other countries. These opportunities allowed me to develop an understanding and respect for people with backgrounds and lifestyles very different from my own. I am fluent in Spanish and French and I continue to learn Italian.
My family had no doubt that I would become a lawyer, as I could argue any point ad nauseam until I got my way! All I really wanted to do though was dance and so I pursued my degree in Fine Arts at UNC-Greensboro where I graduated with a BA in Dance, Political Science, and French. After years of performing, my feet finally fell to the ground and I earned my JD from NCCU in Durham NC. Everyone in school knew me as the "Dancing Lawyer!"
My practice for the past 24 years has been mainly in the areas of Social Security Disability and Workers Compensation. I have also spent many years defending clients in both Criminal and Juvenile law. Children are my passion and assisting those who have no voice is what drives me every day of my life. As an attorney, I have been recognized for outstanding client relations and a commitment to pro bono work.
I was recently asked to join the team at Elder Law and Life Care Planning Center. After reading Helayne Levy's bio on this website, I knew that I had come to the right place, to a practice that truly "has a purpose". As a contract attorney with the firm, I handle different aspects of estate planning such as guardianship matters and estate administration. The most rewarding part of my work is assisting clients with planning their lives so they may enjoy the remaining years they have worked so hard to protect.
